   Kristen's Story

My grandmother passed on and my mother wanted to lift my spirits.  During the trying months I learned to use my legs again, she gave me what became, and still is, my most prized possession - a stand mixer and a stack of old recipes. My gorgeous, red mixer was an outlet, a way to respark my creativity.  But mom had one condition.  I had to make her a Lemon Merengue Pie.  I dug through every book I could find and eventually presented  her a tart, sweet lemon curd filled pie spiked with Limoncello and covered with toasty merengue.  One bite and her eyes lit up.  I was hooked!  I wanted to see that same delighted look on the faces of everyone who tried my creations.

 

Dozens of cupcakes, pies, cookies, and tarts later, I began writing for a local print magazine about food, then adding restaurant reviews, recipes, and chef profiles.  It gave me the chance to get educated and research ingredients.  I grew a serious appreciation for crafting homemade desserts.  I can't believe how hard this is to find in this day and age! 

 

Thus, Kristen's Kreations was born, feeding my passion for baking and sharing the creativity my Grandma Margaret started with her wooden rolling pin.  Let me be your one stop for outstanding treats and fresh pastas.  But, don't just believe me - taste a bite for yourself.  I guarantee your eyes and taste buds will light up, too!

My fondest memory of childhood was standing in my grandmother's vanilla scented kitchen, watching her roll out dough with a heavy wooden rolling pin, anxiously waiting for the nod to lick the bowl dotted with batter remains. Any day was considered a special occasion and my grandma Margaret always said that something freshly baked was a requirement at her table.  My young mind never fully comprehended what she meant but I knew that whatever came out her tiny oven would be special.

 

I didn't think I could carry on Grandma Margaret's legacy in the kitchen.  My biggest accomplishment was a decadent boxed cake, which frankly I loved and thought I couldn't beat.  Mostly because I believed the baking gene passed right over me.

 

As an adult, I was too busy to create a meal.  Every thing was rushed as my career, tending my home, and caring for family took over.  I was a take out pro and boxed dinner queen.  There just wasn't time to roll out dough and wait for something to rise. 

 

My reality took a new direction after a battle with bone cancer and nine back surgeries left me a partial paraplegic and stuck in a wheelchair.  Looking back, I believe it was a sign to slow down and re-evaluate.  Being paralyzed left me no choice.

 

 

"I needed desserts to bring for a meeting which I waited until the last minute. I contacted Kristen after 5pm and she was up for the challenge for an order to feed 30 people.  She delivered all of my order ahead of time with a beautiful presentation.  The cupcakes are phenomenal- so moist and the icing was amazing!  Although you can't really go wrong among the biscotti's, cookies, and cupcakes! I highly reccomend Kristen's Kreations and happy I waited until the last minute and found all of her wonderful treats!!"
